He married (1) MATILDA RICHARDSON/RICHERSON September 07, 1825 in Bourbon Co., KY, daughter of JAMES RICHARDSON/RICHERSON and MELISSA. She was born Abt. 1812 in Bourbon Co., KY, and died Bet. 1860 - 1870 in Bracken Co., KY. He married (2) MARY JANE SHOEMAKER 1841 in Adams Co., OH. She was born 1817 in London, England, and died Aft. 1880 in Ohio.

Notes for HARRISON BAKER SHIELDS:

  • Believed at first that Baker Shields died between 1850 and 1860 as Matilda Richardson Shields showed up on the 1860 Bracken Co. census, pg. 75, living with son, Leonard, and his family.

  • Later information may show that Baker divorced Matilda sometime around 1851 and maybe married a Mary Jane Shoemaker, having more children beginning in 1852. So far have not found any proof one way or the other on these assumptions. The 1850 Nicholas Co., KY census says Baker Shields was b. 1803 in Maryland. Then the 1860 Adams Co., OH census shows Harrison B. Shields was b. 1803 Maryland. Believe Baker Shields and Harrison B. Shields are one and the same person.
