Brown beef in the cooking oil in the open oven; then add salt and water. Cover and cook 10 minutes. Add carrots and onions and cook 30 minutes. Add potatoes and parsley and cook 30-40 minutes more. Cook over low to meduim heat fire; add water to retain about one inch liquid in oven. (serves 8) Slice bread about 3/4 through. Place a slice of butter between each slice. Wrap in aluminum foil and place on coals until hot.
Brown hamburger and onion in oven. Drain grease. Add rice, tomatoes, salt and pepper, and boiling water. Cover and simmer for 1~ hours or until rice is tender.
Brown both sides of beef in open oven in butter. Add other ingredients to oven and cook covered for 2 hours. Add small amount of water if needed to keep sauce thinner. (Serves 8)
Line dutch oven with foil. Mix all ingredients except potatoes and carrots; form into loaf and place in center of foil lined oven. Place potatoes and carrots around meat loaf on foil. Bake 1 hour in covered oven with coals on top and bottom. 8 small potatoes 8 carrots
Brown hamburger meat in pot or Dutch oven. Drain grease. Add onions, garlic, green pepper and tomatoes, salt and kidney beans. Add Chili powder to taste. (Do not taste immediately after adding chili powder as the chili taste will tend to be stronger after two to three minutes.) Cover and cook slowly for 45 minutes on a slow fire. Stir occasionally so it does not burn.
Oil a 12-inch Dutch Oven. Line the oven with heavy duty aluminum foil to simplify clean-up. Add 2 large cans of pie filling to the oven and place it directly on the coals. When the pie filling begins to boil, scatter on a package of cake mix (do not stir). Sprinkle 1/4 cup water on top of the cake mix and add 3 large pats (1 stick) of butter. Place the cover on the Dutch Oven. Now place the oven over 15 white coals and put 15 white coals on the lid. Cook for an hour and 15 minutes. Combinations that work well are: Cherry pie filling and chocolate cake mix, Apple pie filling and yellow cake mix; Peach pie filling and white cake mix.
